By adding another layer of fabric to insulated garments with single quilt or box constructions, cold air penetration is blocked, and warm air is retained. Additionally, the sewing thread does not penetrate from the outer shell to the lining, making cold spots less likely to occur. (Some models also have an additional layer of fabric on the skin side.)
